Tony Curran’s Exhibition “Finding Arthur Wicks”

On the Thursday just gone (27th of Oct), I had the oppurtunity to shoot the opening of the culmination Tony Curran’s Honours research at CSU in Wagga. This exhibition is a mixed media portrait installation following Tony’s process of ‘getting to know’ renowned Australian artist Arthur Wicks. This exhibition is part of Curran’s research into Portraiture Since the White Cube.
This exhibition and the works take the original ideas and constraints of your typical white cube gallery and challenge how works inside these ‘white cubes’ are normally hung and shown. As well as this, the works within this exhibition challenge our preconceived ideas and thoughts of what a portrait should and shouldn’t be. These ideas also toy with how portraits should be displayed. All in all, this is an excellent display of mixed media portraiture that I urge all of you to take the time to look at.

If you can’t make it to Wagga, where the work is on show at the H.R. Gallop Gallery in Boorooma Street, then please visit these sites for more of Tony’s work and some of his in depth writings on the nature of art.http://www.tonycurran.net/

I will also have a series of images and a video in the coming weeks showing both the works and opening of the exhibition!
