  2. Honesty, humility;

    two qualities that as of late, I have found within the photographs my friends have taken. Douglas Taylor traveled to Spain and returned with images that are extremely humble and wise beyond his years.

  3. "With photography (in the most traditional sense) you have an endless amount of information that is possible to record, but when you create an image you subtract out almost everything, capturing one instant from one perspective. It is an inherently subtractive process. In all my work I hope to create more additive documents."

     - Jeremy Bolen interview on art21.
  4. "I want to know how people endure despite setting or circumstance."

  5. My man, Joel Billiet posted a selection of photos from his recent trip to Tasmania with some friends, traveling around on postie bikes. Legends!

    Artist Ed Ruscha was named as one of the 100 most influential people in the world by TIME Magazine today!

    Watch this film to get to know the artist (and his dog!), then come see two of his works on view in our 2nd floor galleries. (Scratches on the Film and Sin with Olives)

  8. Sebastian Junger - Which Way Is The Front Line?

    The Fader posted a really great interview with Sebastian Junger, who just released a film about the life and work of Tim Hetherington, in my opinion one of the greatest war photojournalists of our time. Which Way Is The Front Line? debuted on HBOGo today.

    Thanks to Chris Cooper for the heads up!

  12. Today, we struggle.

  13. "Exhibition labels and critical essays may contain information, even insight, but they never contain answers – they can’t, simply because art doesn’t do answers. Viewer subjectivity, varying contexts, and the passage of time each and together ensure that there will always be content beyond the prescribed reading of a given work, meanings that change continuously, vary from person to person, and needn’t have anything to do with authorial intention, institutional instruction, or even our own previous impressions of that work."

     - Christopher Schrek

    Schrek’s writing is honest, informative and extremely accessible. Highly recommended.
